In late 2025 and early 2026, I invested quite a bit of time in learning about the implications that AI was going to have on the way technology delivered value. I found that, quite often, the risks and costs to realizing the much-hyped benefits of AI were hidden and decided to collect and publish the things I was learning and the first version of my book, The Shadow Balance: The Technology Leader’s Guide to the Hidden Costs and Risks of AI, was published in September 2026 and quickly followed by a series of podcasts.
The book is logically structured by nested topics, with each topic taking only 5 minutes to read. I’m conciously taking a risk with this format – I hope it accelerates understanding, while providing enough details that someone can action it.
My goal is to share as much as I can about what I’ve learned to help others avoid the surprises that comes along with some of the value of AI.
